Hey, that's a great question. I think the conversation around AI in design is still a little too focused on tools, when the real shift is in how designers think even before they build. 

If I had to bet on the non-negotiable designer skillset by 2028, it looks something like:

Problem framing > visual executionAI will make it trivial to generate UI. The real value will be defining the right problem, constraints, and success metrics. Guess what - this has always been the case. 

Systems thinkingDesigners will need to think in systems: states, edge cases, ranking logic, personalization signals, and how products adapt over time.

Taste & editingAI generates a lot of “good enough" stuff right now. And yeesss, I know the famous TASTE everyone is annoyed to hear about. But it's true. The differentiator will be the ability to curate, refine, and push toward something meaningful. Products with style will stand out.

Narrative & alignmentMaybe the hardest thing to do within a big company is to get alignment across people and teams. I think designers will spend more time explaining why something should exist like writing briefs, framing tradeoffs, and aligning product/eng teams if not coding themselves.

Workflow-wise, the biggest shift I see is designers moving from pixel pushers to system orchestrators, prompters, builders.

Hey Frank — I've been doing a lot of research into how AI tooling is reshaping design practice, and while there's plenty of speculation out there, I haven't come across many frameworks for what teams are concretely doing to adapt.
