I think it's important to recognize the systemic advantages that come with being a straight white male, especially in certain industries and societies. While I’ve worked hard for the opportunities I’ve had, I also know that factors outside of my control—like my background—have often given me a smoother path than others might face. For example, two of the three jobs I've had in tech were connections through my network, mostly male-oriented, with people who could vouch for me and give me an inside tip on a role that was open.

Sometimes, I’ve noticed how I’ve been given the benefit of the doubt, whether it’s in job interviews, networking, or simply being in environments that feel inherently designed for someone like me.

I try my best to stay mindful of this privilege and use it to amplify others who may not have had the same opportunities, whether it’s mentoring, advocating for more inclusive hiring practices, or just listening.
